VIC: Esso wanted to spend less on Longford plant, worker

MELBOURNE, Jan 18 AAP - Esso management told workers at its Longford gas plant it wanted to
spend less money on the plant as its revenue decreased, the royal commission into Victoria's
gas crisis heard today.

Esso technician Robert Elliott said staff had been concerned at cutbacks at the plant about
four years ago. The then plant superintendent Richard Owen had told them Esso wanted to keep
its operating costs level by reducing spending on the plant as its revenue decreased.
