WA: Community fears approaching cyclone
People at a remote Aboriginal community in Western Australia are tonight anxiously
waiting for buses to take them out of tropical cyclone Sam's destructive path.
Bidyadanga clinic nurse AARON BAVIS says it isn't clear how many people are still at
the community, how many have already left and how many will stay behind.
Mr BAVIS says he believes some people, including the storeman and a sister from the
church, want to stay behind and won't take the State Emergency Service buses.
But he says most people have already left or are keen get out as soon as possible.
Winds have whipped up alarmingly as people wait in the community office for the buses to arrive.
With a category 5 rating, Cyclone Sam is more powerful than the famous cyclone Tracy
that destroyed Darwin in 1974.
